conditional “freedom” isn’t freedom

why the “you’re free to do X” script isn’t freedom: lawmaking, supremacy, and conditional love.

conditional “freedom” isn’t freedom

there are so many issues with this

a) most christians don’t just let people be free to do stuff. they often enforce laws, create curriculum, push social norms, and enable hateful behaviour. that isn’t freedom for all.

b) not everything outside of or deemed “wrong” by christianity is worse for you. what if life can be good and healthy and joyful and peaceful and fulfilling outside of religion?

c) no one needs anyone else’s approval. humans deserve autonomy and their own right to make ethical decisions. this post airs a weird supremacy / “i’m better than you” / conditional love and acceptance vibe.

looking back

deeming someone else’s life choices “wrong” is something i did for so long. i thought i was really loving others and god well. i was convinced that life in christianity was better than anything the world had to offer.

now i feel a lot of shame because i know it was wrong behaviour and i see it for what it was:
