rapture notes, age 11
at eleven, i filled my bible with rapture warnings: blood seas, 135-lb hail, “we then fight the devil.” this is what i was taught, and why it still bothers me.
i found my old bible. inside the cover, eleven-year-old me had written this:
1/3 of men will be killed. You can’t run. You can’t hide. People with the mark. God turns the whole sea to blood. No more water. All rivers and springs turn to blood. Heat will scorch you! Total darkness. Rivers dry up! All islands dissapeer. Hailstones, rain down that are 135 pounds; We then fight the devil.
that was the mix i was being taught at eleven: end-times charts, “left behind” videos, pressure to warn friends so they could “get saved.”
for real, that’s some choice info to hand an eleven-year-old. it’s stuck to me for years.
i’m bothered this was my experience. i’m bothered it was many of yours. i think there’s a better way than fear-training kids.
